Ireland has a temperate maritime climate, which to you and me means the weather is best described as changeable! Sunny days can quickly turn cloudy, with the possibility of showers at any time.
No surprise than that the spectacular shades of green of the Irish countryside are a result of the generous annual rainfall the country experiences. Dublin itself receives on average 73mm per year of rain, and is generally a few degrees warmer than the provinces due to the “urban heat effect” of the Dublin conurbation. Winters in Dublin are mild and damp with temperatures averaging around 7ºC from December to February, rarely dropping below freezing. Spring is generally temperate but unpredictable. Temperatures between May and August average a cool 15-20ºC, with highs in August seldom above 30ºC. But when it is sunny, Dublin’s one of the best places to be, as Dubliners hit the bars (though they never need an excuse!), or head for the spectacular coast to catch some sun. And who said the weather affects your mood? Dublin residents describe themselves as among the happiest in Europe, and as the local say: “it never rains in the pub”.
