Thomas Darvis statue, Dublin

Thomas Osborne Darvis was a revolutionary Irish writer who was the chief organizer and poet of the Young Ireland movement. Born in Mallow in
county
Cork , he studied at
Trinity
College in
Dublin , receiving a degree in Arts. He dedicated his life to Irish nationalism and wrote moving songs about his native land such as his famous "A Nation Once Again.” As a Protestant, he sought to unite Catholics and Protestants for a united Ireland .
Darvis died at the age of thirty in 1845 succumbing to tuberculosis. A statue commemorating Darvis was unveiled on College Green,
Dublin in 1966.
