Located at the foot of the Sugar Loaf Mountains, Powerscourt Estate and gardens is the perfect destination to view a little green to your trip to the Emerald Isle. Commissioned in the early 1700’s by Richard Wingfield, the 1st Viscount of Powerscourt, the estate was built on the site of Norman castle ruins. The estate thrived for many years until it succumbed to the hard times during the famine. In the mid 1800’s beautiful ornamental gardens were created by the 7th Viscount of Powerscourt. Urns and statues such as the lion sculpture depicted here were strategically placed throughout the estate and several ponds served as appealing complements to each themed garden.
