Located in the verdant St. Stephen’s Green, a park in inner city  Dublin and near the corner of Grafton Street, close to the commercial district, the Fusilier’s Arch commemorates the Royal Dublin Fusiliers who lost their lives during the Second Boer War. Though they won many Boer battles, they also suffered heavy casualties. The Royal Dublin Fusiliers was an Irish Infantry Regiment from the British Army trained and garrisoned in Ireland. This regiment was disbanded in 1922 under the terms of the Anglo-Irish Treaty. The gate was referred to by some as “Traitors Gate“, mainly by Redmondites.
