Flowers in Phoenix Park
Flowers in Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park is the largest enclosed urban public park in all of Europe at 712 hectares (1,760 acres) and is located 3 km to the north west of Dublin city centre. Its walled circumference of 16 km contains large areas of grassland and tree-lined avenues. Since the seventeenth century the park has been home to a herd of wild Fallow deer which can be spotted at dusk and at other times during the day. The parks name in the Irish “fionn uisce” sounds like the English word Phoenix, though the Irish translates to mean "clear water". A statue of a Phoenix was added in 1747 by Lord Chesterfield. Visit the Dublin Zoo, the Wellington obelisk or enjoy a picnic in this green space.
