Bars in Dublin
Dubliners are known for their liveliness and friendliness and this is exactly the spirit you will experience when you step into any of Dublin’s excellent pubs in Temple Bar, O’Connell St or Grafton St.
With lots of bars also offering live Irish music, a perfectly pulled pint of Guinness and a guarantee of the cheeky Irish sense of humour, a night out in Ireland’s capital city will be one to remember.
In Dublin, you’ll find all sorts of pubs and bars; from traditional Irish pubs to more sophisticated wine bars to cheesy disco bars. Pubs normally sell food (often typical Irish dishes or British style Sunday dinners), and are generally open from 10.30am until about midnight during the week and 2.30 am on Saturdays. Don’t forget that since 2004, smoking in bars is not allowed, though often bars have patios or gardens for smokers.
In the cobbled stoned Temple Bar, you’ll find the Oliver St. John Gogarty bar where you can hear live Irish music most nights of the week and enjoy tasty pub food. Also in Temple Bar, located in the Clarence Hotel (owned by Bono of U2) is The Octagon Bar which has a much more classy feel; it claims to specialise in cocktails and ‘flair bartending’. Located on Bridge St by the River Liffey is Dublin’s oldest pub, The Brazen Head. Its history goes back 800 years and here you can also find live traditional Irish music. The George, on Georges St. is Dublin’s most famous gay bar and has a serious party atmosphere. Finally, the Dakota Bar on South William St. with its leather couches and cool ambience, which attracts the hip young crowd of Dublin.
From traditional bars to trendy cocktail bars, Dublin’s got it all.
